Recently, a pattern has begun to emerge with Samsung launching its flagships Galaxy S and Galaxy Note, followed by a “Lite” model or a more affordable model a few months later.
With the launch of the Galaxy S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra in March 2020, rumors began to circulate about a Galaxy S20 Lite or Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (FE), as it was called.
Here you will find everything we have heard so far about the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (FE) or Galaxy S20 Lite.
- September 2020 announced?
- October 2020 available?
Samsung’s strategy with its “Lite” devices was to announce them a few months after the release of the more expensive devices on which they are based, but there is no uniform six- or nine-month pattern.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite was announced in January 2020, nine months after the S10 series. However, the 10 Lite was also announced in January 2020, five months after the 10 and 10+ grades.
It is therefore a little unknown when exactly the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition will be released, although rumors say that Q4 and October 2020 have been tossed around.
Samsung has planned a virtual event for September 2nd instead of the Berlin IFA, so the device may be announced in September and will be available from October 2020.
- Cheaper than Galaxy S20
- Around £580/$760
The Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite launched at £579 in the UK and $650 in the US, saving a few hundred of the launch price for the Galaxy S10 series.
The Galaxy S20 Fan Edition is rumored to launch at 900,000 won, which is about £580 in the UK or $760 in the US, both of which are expected to be lower than the S20.
- Different colours in Europe
- Plastic rear
- IP68 waterproofing
Due to the leaks, it looks like the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition will follow an almost identical design as the Galaxy S20, but the glass back panel will be replaced with a plastic back panel. We wouldn’t be surprised to see “glass” like the standard Galaxy Note 20, and it is said that there will be a range of color options available in Europe.
It is expected that the Galaxy S20 FE will have a distinctive rectangular camera module on the back – like the S20 series and the Note 20 series – and it is said that it will have a 3.3mm pinhole camera on the front.
The Galaxy S20 Fan Edition is said to measure 161 x 73 x 8 mm – about the same size as the Galaxy S20+ – and is said to be IP68 water and dust resistant.
- Between 6.4 and 6.5-inches
- 120Hz refresh rate
- Flat, AMOLED
- Under display fingerprint sensor
The Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition is said to have a display between 6.4 and 6.5 inches, based on the render leaks, which would place it between S20 and S20+. It is also said to have a display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, as the flagship S20 models offer.
An AMOLED panel is expected, and a centralized punch-hole front camera is also reported. Rumor has it that the device will also have a fingerprint sensor under the display.
Based on the renderings, the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition will have a flat display and not curved like the Galaxy S10 Lite.
Hardware and specs
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 865/Exynos 990
- 6GB/8GB RAM
- 4500mAh battery
First rumors about the Galaxy S20 FE indicated that the device would offer the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset worldwide and not Exynos in some regions, although a model with Exynos has been released in the meantime.
It is reported that the Qualcomm model will have 6 GB RAM, while the Exynos model has been released with 8 GB RAM. Rumors say that 4G and 5G models will also be released.
The battery capacity is said to be 4500 mAh – the same as the Galaxy S20+ model.
- Triple rear (12MP + 12MP + 8MP)
- 32MP front
According to reports, the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition, like the Galaxy S20, will be equipped with a triple rear view camera.
The camera design is said to be similar to the Galaxy S20, but without the larger 64 megapixel telephoto sensor. Instead, it will consist of a 12 megapixel main and a 12 megapixel telephoto sensor as well as an 8 megapixel ultra-wide sensor with 3x optical zoom.
It is suggested that the front camera should consist of a 32-megapixel sensor.
