The Ultimate Samsung TV Buying Guide

Samsung has become one of the most trusted brands for smart TVs in recent years. The company offers a wide range of sizes and screen resolutions suitable for almost any living room, dorm or home theater. The different screen technologies also offer you a wide range of picture quality, color gamut and contrast. Samsung is one of the few manufacturers that offers curved televisions in addition to their popular flat panel displays.

They even have several lines of televisions that blend into your home decor as works of art when not in use. If you’re a die-hard Samsung customer or just in the market for a decent, affordable new TV, the brand has plenty of options to choose from. We’ll explain some important factors to consider when buying a new Samsung TV to help you decide which one is right for you.

Samsung KS8000

Screen Resolution And Size

The very first thing you should do when buying a new TV is to determine what size will fit best in your room. To do this, choose a spot for a special stand or wall mount and measure the distance from where you are most likely to sit.

For example, if your couch is 10 feet from your TV (120 inches), the ideal TV size is 60 inches. You can choose something larger or smaller depending on what’s available online and in stores, but a TV that’s too large or too small can cause problems.

Not only does a screen that is too large take up unnecessary space and may not fit in your room at all, but it can also cause motion sickness. A screen that is too small makes it difficult to see details and colors and forces everyone to crowd around the TV, making a viewing party or even watching series and movies with the family after dinner uncomfortable.

Once you’ve determined the best TV size for your space, it’s time to look at screen resolution. TVs that offer 4K UHD resolution are becoming increasingly popular and have become mainstream in home entertainment.

They offer four times the number of pixels compared to 1080p Full HD, which means you can get a wider color range and more detail. Many streaming services offer UHD content, so you can take full advantage of your TV’s picture technology.

You can still find TV models that use 1080p Full HD, and these make great secondary TVs in the bedroom, kitchen, or kids’ room; especially if you mainly watch TV programs and older DVDs. Samsung has also started producing a line of 8K televisions.

These give you four times the detail of 4K and 16 times that of 1080p. However, these models are incredibly expensive, and there is a serious lack of 8K content that can be streamed or viewed via broadcast signals. This means that unless you want to future-proof your home theater, you’ll be spending a lot of money on a TV that you won’t be able to use for several years.

HDR Support And Audio

Many of Samsung’s 4K TVs support HDR technology. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range and is a technology that analyzes broadcasts and movies scene by scene to achieve optimal color, contrast, and picture quality.

The latest lineup of Samsung TVs uses the proprietary Quantum HDR technology, while others use Dolby Vision. There’s not much difference between the two versions, but Quantum HDR is optimized for use with Samsung’s latest TVs, so you can take full advantage of the QLED panel and get images that rival OLED quality.

If you’re an audiophile, many of Samsung’s TVs use Dolby Atmos to create virtual surround sound for a more immersive experience. Many TVs also have Bluetooth connectivity to set up wireless speakers, soundbars, and subwoofers for a customized home theater setup. Bluetooth also lets you connect wireless headphones for private listening so you don’t disturb others in your home or dorm while you watch your favorite shows and movies, listen to music, or play video games.

Qled TV Curved

Curved Vs Flat

While curved televisions didn’t gain the popularity that Samsung and other manufacturers had hoped for, you can still find great curved TVs at affordable prices. Curved televisions were designed for ultra-wide viewing angles and to reduce glare from natural and overhead lighting, giving you a better movie and show watching experience. The curvature of the screen is meant to give you full color volume at almost any angle, so no matter where you’re sitting in relation to the screen, the picture never looks washed out or dim.

The biggest drawback to a curved television is that they require specialized brackets for wall mounting, which can be quite expensive, and curved TVs often don’t look as great as their flat counterparts when mounted. The curved edges can stick out quite a ways from the wall, creating the danger of breakage from accidental bumps. The anti-glare benefit has been exceeded by their flat cousins as well.

Many newer flat screen televisions have panels that have been treated with anti-glare coatings or built with anti-reflective glass, giving them better viewing angles and color volume without a curve. However, a curved TV can still find a home in your living room, dorm, or home theater, if you’re looking for a unique aesthetic.

Qled

Voice Controls

Voice control is now just as important for TVs as 4K UHD resolution. You will hardly find a model that does not allow voice commands in some form. Many Samsung models, both older and newer, are compatible with both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Some need to be connected to an external smart speaker to take advantage, but some have voice-activated remotes with built-in microphones that allow you to use voice commands right out of the box.

Samsung has gone a step further and integrated its own virtual assistant, Bixby, into all of its latest models. It works much like Alexa or Google Assistant: you can launch apps, search your movie and series libraries, search for celebrity names or movie titles, and even control other devices on your smart home network.

Samsung’s Bixby is a great option for anyone looking to get their first virtual assistant, as it’s automatically included in the price of your TV and quick to set up; it also doesn’t require you to buy a separate speaker, saving you a bit of money in the long run. Of course, not everyone needs or wants hands-free control. Therefore, Bixby and the other virtual assistants can be disabled in the TV’s menus, making the remote the only command input for your TV.
